Salute to Senator Santorum
As the Democrats continue to flex their majority power in Washington after the last election, it should be noted that one of the conservative movement's greatest senators is no longer in D.C. For reasons that totally escape me, the people of the state of Pennsylvania did not re-elect Senator Rick Santorum to another term. During his tenure as an elected official, the Senator was a true conservative how stood up for the rights of the unborn, took every opportunity to lower taxes, and was a voice of strength and reason when it came to the war on terrorism.
Before he left office, the Senator did the country one more favor by dismissing the Jim Baker-led Iraq Study Group as worthless. Specifically he said "it is my opinion after reading the summary that it was not worth reading. It was a bunch of contradictory suggestions, no clear plan other than the fact that we have to get out, and that means to surrender."
On the Iraq war itself, Mr. Santorum added: "If World War II was covered like this (by the media) war, I really, very seriously doubt that we would have ever won that war. Certainly, we might have been willing, when the losses got so high, to negotiate a compromise or negotiate some sort of surrender. The death that went on -- I always remind people that we lost more people in a couple of hours on D-Day than we have in the entire war [in Iraq]."
Finally he added, "all you (the media) do is accomplish exactly what the terrorists want you to do, which is to weary the American public of this war -- and eventually cause us to stop fighting it." Exactly.
What a shame that Mr. Santorum is no longer Senator Santorum.
